Use your Instant Pot to steam frozen raw shrimp in minutes! Instant Pot frozen shrimp can be served as a quick appetizer or used in any recipe that calls for cooked shrimp.

Total Instant Pot Cooking Time: Up to 10 minutes to reach pressure + 0 minutes cooking time + quick release

Ingredients

  • Frozen raw shrimp, any amount

This recipe was tested using medium shrimp that were peeled and deveined. Medium shrimp are labeled as "21-30" which means there are between 21 to 30 shrimp in each pound. You can also use this recipe for larger shrimp (31-40) or shrimp that have a peel on.

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of water into the Instant Pot.
  2. Put the frozen shrimp in a steamer basket and set it over the water.
  3. Secure the lid and program the Instant pot to cook for “0” minutes at high pressure.
  4. A full pound of shrimp will take about 10 minutes to reach pressure.
  5. When the Instant Pot reaches pressure, it will almost immediately start beeping to indicate that the cooking time is complete, since you programmed it to cook for zero minutes.
  6. Immediately release the steam using an quick release.

Notes

This recipe works best with frozen, raw shrimp. Both frozen, cooked shrimp and defrosted, raw shrimp are likely to overcook, even when cooked for zero minutes.

This recipe was tested in a 6-quart Instant Pot.

I recommend either a silicone steamer basket or a large mesh steamer basket (the silicone basket is easier to clean).

To set the cooking time to "0" minutes, press the Manual button then press the minus “ - ” button to move the cooking time down to zero.

If the shrimp aren't cooked enough for your liking, just set the lid back on the Instant Pot and let the shrimp sit in the residual heat for a few minutes.
