    Welcome to Kitchen Skip!

Hi there! I'm Jenny, the recipe developer, creator, photographer and writer behind this food blog and the Kitchen Skip Substack newsletter.

If you need easy, delicious dinner recipes you're in the right place! Kitchen Skip is a go-to food blog for busy parents who crave wholesome, flavorful food but don't have a lot of time to cook. Every recipe on this blog has been tested multiple times and is a meal that I have fed my own family.

Some of our favorites include Instant Pot chicken and dumplings, crispy tofu tacos and Instant Pot pork butt.

    A Little Bit About Me

Kitchen Skip foodblogger and recipe developer Jenny Meier

I'm Jenny, busy Mama of two and a professional recipe developer. I attended culinary school in San Francisco and spent a decade gaining valuable culinary experience in restaurants, cheese shops and wine stores before I began developing recipes full-time. In 2019, I finally started my own food blog and Kitchen Skip was born.

I love simple flavorful food that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. I'm especially fond of pasta, big crunchy salads and juicy burgers. I also love buttered toast and steaming hot mugs of coffee!

I've always loved to cook and eat and I've always been a writer of one sort or another. I feel very lucky to have combined these passions into a career! I have a degree in Communications from the University of Washington and I'm a graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco.

For many years I was a recipe developer and cookbook author for the leading Paleo site Marksdailyapple.com. During that time, I also wrote articles and crafted recipes as the Cheese Guide for TheSpruceEats.com.

Currently, I develop recipes in my sunny L.A. kitchen for this food blog and my Substack newsletter. I also work as a recipe development consultant for SANS Meal Bar.

What You'll Find on Kitchen Skip

All of the recipes on Kitchen Skip are made with both parents and kids in mind. A Kitchen Skip recipe is easy to make and has simple but satisfying flavors. I like to share recipes that are appealing to parents and adaptable for the tastes of kids.

    • Family Dinner Recipes: I specialize in creating easy, wholesome family dinner recipes that don't take too much effort. You'll also find side dishes and snacks, but mostly, this food blog is all about dinner.
    • Reliable Recipes: I'm a professional recipe developer and a busy parent. I take pride in my work writing recipes and I will not waste your time in the kitchen - I know how frustrating it is when a new recipe doesn't turn out! I test all of my recipes multiple times.
    • Step-by-Step Instructions: Most of my recipes have step-by-step photos so you can follow along as you cook.

More About Jenny and the Blog

Why is the blog called Kitchen Skip?

My blog is called Kitchen Skip because I want to inspire myself (and you!) to happily skip into the kitchen, instead of dragging our feet and dreading the task.

Why do you focus on dinner recipes?

I've worked in the food industry for a long time, but the hardest job I've ever had is cooking dinner for my family EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. I knew that if I needed help coming up with easy family dinner recipes, other parents did too.

Before I started this food blog, I was feeling burned out. Cooking dinner was no longer a joy, it was an endless and overwhelming chore. I felt like I was cooking the same boring dinners over and over again. I started this blog as a way to pull myself out of my slump. Writing dinner recipes for other busy parents has helped motivate me to cook for my own family in a more organized and thoughtful way.

    What are your hobbies?

I'm an avid reader of both fiction and cookbooks. I'm a life-long runner (not super long distances!) and I enjoy being outside with my family.

Where did you grow up and where do you live now?

I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and still consider that part of the country home. I currently live in LA, but will always love rainy weather and coffee!
